What's Not Being Said about Haiti (Ezili Danto)

If you are having trouble reading this email, you may view the online version

"Le Negre Marron" (The Black Maroon) by Haitian Sculptor Albert Mangones
Dear POB! Family,
My heartfelt prayers are with the people of Haïti on this, the third anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake of January 12, 2010.
I have never been to Haïti and don't know that anyone on either side of my family is from there. But our collective ancestors are African and we are, as a result, spiritually and historical tied forever. I'm honored by that fact.
So while I celebrate the humanity and the beauty of my Haïtian extended family, I remain heartbroken that the United States has played such a disastrous role in the under-development of that powerful island nation.
I'm committed to telling the truth as it is revealed to me and for that reason, I'm sharing an audio link to a media interview that was conducted yesterday on WBAI Radio. Listen to artist, activist, and lawyer Ezili Danto  (Marguerite Laurent)  as she is being interview by Felipe Luciano on "Wake Up Call (Friday Edition)." What's NOT being discussed about Haïti is being discussed here.
I met Ezili three years ago during my "Help Haïti" organizing work. She remains one of Haïti's most staunch defenders and lie-slayers. Please listen and explore for yourself. And if informed and inspired, please support the work of the Haïtian Lawyers Leadership Network (HLLN).

And please support independent media such as WBAI (www.wbai.org) and other outlets. Our intellectual well-being depends on their survial.
Love the love of Haïti,
ars.
April R. Silver

This Crisis Has No Holiday: Hurricane Sandy in Haïti

If you are having trouble reading this email, you may view the online version
A Message from My Good Friend (and Fellow HU Bison) Marie-Yolaine Eusebe...
December 2012
Bonjour!
During the holiday season, now more than ever, our thoughts turn gratefully to you, our donors and supporters, who have made our progress this year possible. On behalf of the Community2Community (C2C) team, volunteers and the people we serve in Petit Goâve, thank you!
Many of you have reached out to ask about our annual "Hope and A Future" Benefit Concert for Haïti, usually held in January to commemorate the anniversary of the 2010 Haïti earthquake. Well, we have wonderful news! Next year "Hope and A Future" moves to a new season, Spring. The 2013 concert will move to May with its new name: "Hope and A Future" A Celebration of Haïti. Stay tuned to inProgress for details. We will be using the first C2C Town Hall of 2013, scheduled for Thursday, January 10th at Brooklyn Borough Hall, to remember the earthquake and celebrate Haïti's moving forward. We invite you to join us... [scroll to the bottom for details].
As the year draws to a close, we continue our work with the community in Brooklyn, volunteering in the Hurricane Sandy clean up initiatives with Christian Cultural Center and in the communities we serve in Petit Goâve.
www.Community2Community.info
The world-wide water crisis and cholera, which has taken over 7,000 live in Haïti to date, do not take the holidays off. Most of the poor around the world or those living in poverty pay 12 times more for water than those with regular access. Some are forced to go to loan sharks who charge 125% interest to get access to water or to build a toilet in their homes. You can impact these statistics today in Petit Goâve by clicking HERE to help us to continue the construction on the sustainable water system initiative. For those of you who are interested in supporting C2C with in-kind donations we are in need of laptops. Please contact us at info@community2community.info or call 718.393.7740.
Much was accomplished this year but much still needs to be done. Thanks again for heeding the call to ... be a part of something greater than yourself! We couldn't have done it without you!
From our community to yours, Joyeux Nöel, Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanzaa to all!
Pou Ayiti Cherie,
Marie-Yolaine
